
Allison Brooks Janney (born November 19th, 1959)[2] is an American actress. Her name is well-known due to her performances across a variety of kinds of genres, both on screen and stage during her career of three decades. Janney has been awarded numerous awards, including an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award as well as an Golden Globe Award, and seven Primetime Emmy Awards, in addition to nominations to win Two Tony Awards. Janney was born in Boston but was raised at home in Dayton (Ohio). Janney was awarded a scholarship to studying at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art when she completed her studies at Kenyon College. Janney received credit for numerous small, infrequent television and film appearances through the years. Her breakthrough part in the role of C. J. Cregg on the NBC show The West Wing (1999-2006) brought her the award of four Primetime Emmy Awards. In 2014, she received the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in Drama Series for her character Margaret Scully on the Showtime period drama Masters of Sex.
